Shortly after arriving in Veilstone City, our Heroes are shocked and awed to come across a Lucario, training intensely with who turns out to be the Veilstone Gym leader, Maylene. However, it turns out that Maylene was soundly defeated earlier on by none other than Ash's rival Paul, and she is now reluctant to continue being the Veilstone Gym leader.
