Montana, 1999: Kathryn Laird, the wife of an attorney, is found drowned. A strong swimmer, Kathryn's family immediately doubts the apparent suicide. Her husband Brian is strongly suspected, but authorities can't immediately bring charges against him and he moves to a different state. It becomes a cold case until an FBI agent looks into it again and finds surprising new evidence.
