After hearing James play, Don immediately took the young trumpeter under his wing, becoming his mentor and even inviting him to join the Burrows band. It was the beginning of a touching and enduring friendship, on stage and off. James Morrison went on to become Australia's most prominent jazz musician, and has never forgotten all that Don did for him.
