Jim and Mary contemplated the possibility that Janet's presence might push Alice away from them. Tom called Pat and lied that he couldn't have supper with her family because he'd forgotten a previous engagement with his parents, but he assured her they still have a date for Independence Day. A forlorn Pat remembered sleeping with Tom over their last holiday weekend together.
